A takeaway food restaurant in Birkby is set to close for good after the owner admits 17 food and hygiene breaches. The owner of a rat-infested takeaway in Birkby has said that the premises will close for good next month after repeatedly not dealing with the issue of rodents in the restaurant. The New Sanam Sweet Centre has hit the headlines numerous times in recent years due to its poor food hygiene ratings and problems with rodents. The Council prosecutor Tahir Hanif said the officials visited the business premises in October last year and noticed a very strong smell of rat urine. He told the court “There were rat droppings in the main kitchen area, beneath and behind the food storage area and cooking range. They were underneath the food preparation table and empty rat poison boxes”. In this day and age, rat poison and other rodent killing products are readily available from companies such a Pest-Expert, so how this situation got so bad is baffling.
